bigmouth, I remember that story, only it was a GB member. He told an older GB member to absolutely NOT touch anything on his desk. He arrived later to find his things rearranged neatly and was furious at the other GB member and gave him some counsel about minding his own business or respecting others or somesuch. Later, it was discovered that housecleaning had moved his stuff. He went back and apologized to the other GB member, asking why he didn't defend himself. The other brother just said, "Guilty or not, it was good counsel!"
Well, I'm sorry. I guess I'm just not a "team player". I will NOT bend over and take it in the rear while the guilty parties are shown favoritism.

What's more important??
by The Last Nephilim ini'm placing this into the "scandals and coverups" section for good reason, i think.
a few days ago i had an elder and one of "the anointed" come by to encourage my wife and i to "get back to the meetings before it's too late".
i proceeded to tell him a few of the reasons why i've lost confidence in the elders and the organization, and he retorted with a real- life example of how i need to see that although the "brothers" can make mistakes, it's best to accept it as "jehovah's will" and play along.

I should clarify- the brother telling me this story didn't use the words "play along" but that's how I understood it. I can't be sure, but his exact words might have been that I "need to keep the larger picture in mind and accept the GB's decisions and trust that what's best for everyone will work out." To me, that has the same meaning as "play along" because when it comes down to it, if the GB doesn't do what's right and expects everyone to respect and support their decisions, that's the same as telling us to "play along".
He did say that the guilty parties were DF'd.
Yes, the gist of the story was that since this ONE brother bent over and took it, so should I if it makes the organization look better.
Well, it's almost time to go get ready for the Memorial! After seeing V's YouTube video on how the memorial is basically an infomercial about joining the JWs, I will be watching with a different point of view tonight! I'm still undecided as to whether or not to partake... -

MVP indeed! If not him then LeBron or Chris Paul! I'm tired of the Kobe hype! Without the acquisition of Pau Gasol, Kobe wouldn't even be considered for MVP. Thanks to Gasol, however, the Lakers are better and Kobe gets the credit!??? Puh- leeeease!
I realize the same argument can be made for KG getting the nod for MVP, but look at his numbers compared to Kobe. Heck, Kobe's self- righteous attitude would make him a better candidate for becoming a JW rather than MVP! -

Flaky JWs drag down the Cong Performance Stats. Doncha' hate that? ;-)
by Open mind insome quick advice for faders re: level of field service activity.
btw, this assumes you have no problem turning in "fluffed up" hours as part of a reverse "theocratic warfare" strategy.
if you really don't care one way or the other whether you turn in a field service report, turn one in at least every 6 months with one hour of "time" on it.

I think I'm going to start the "irregular" to "inactive" bit for the remainder of my time in the bORG. The thing is, I've only avergaed about one meeting a month for the past few months. Do you think that's enough to keep turning in some time every few months?

cognac, I know EXACTLY what your hubby's going thru!!! I was once assigned to be the reader at a book study to be held in an elder's home a month before the new book study arrangements were to go into effect. Keep in mind that I was only a reader- I was NOT the assistant! We didn't have enough MSs to go around so they decided I could be a reader until I got my appointment. On the Sunday before our first Monday night bookstudy was to begin, I joked with the BS overseer as we were leaving the KH about reading with my jeans on (long story), and he said, "Oh... ah... well, I think Brother So-and-so is going to be our reader." Not only was I livid that the BOE changed their minds and thought it best to NOT let me be the reader, but they weren't even going to tell me! For a month I was allowed to tell people how happy I was to get the privilege all the while I really didn't have it! Instead, they decided that it was best to have an 80 year old elder go to TWO bookstudies a week, one to conduct, and one to assist, that way it would free up an MS to come to our BS to read. The real kicker is that the MS who came is a good friend of mine (we knew each other before we became JWs), and he didn't WANT to read. He told me he'd much rather let me do it! On top of that, the group that meets at the KH lets 2 teenage boys and one 20- something boy rotate as readers- and none of them are MSs!!!! Anyone smell a vendetta here?
OK, not to hijack the thread, but I couldn't resist sharing that!
nomoreguilt- good point about 1Cor11:26! I'm sure if asked, the elders would say, "That's referring to his EARTHLY return..." -

PROVE you are a conscious being
by journey-on inwhat words would you use?
what descriptions about your existence would you make to prove you are conscious?

I farted. I know this because I detected the scent and sound and because I felt it. I also had an emotional reaction to it. It also produced an emotional reaction from others around me.
I farted. I know it, and others confirmed it, therefore I am a conscious being. -

I'm placing this into the "Scandals and Coverups" section for good reason, I think. The example he gave was of a Bethelite who was a secretary. Some money came up missing and he got the blame and was disfellowshipped. After 7 years, some other judicial proceedings were taking place involving some other elders, and during this time it was discovered that the former secretary who was disfellowshipped for stealing was actually innocent and was set up to take the fall by the other elders. TWO governing body members went to the brother who was falsely accused and DF'd and told him, "We are NOT going to exonerate you. We are going to reinstate you." The reason? Because the congregation would be upset and disturbed that this brother was DF'd for 7 years even though he was totally and completely innocent! I was then told how the innocent brother was OK with the GB's decision because it was for the "greater good", so I, too, should just go along with the mistakes the GB or the BOE makes and not cause an upset in the congregation.
I say BULL$H!T !!! "Greater good"???? To me, what is RIGHT is always the greater good! What is right is that that poor man should have been exonerated and been issued a FULL apology by the Society!!!! The greater good is not to protect the organization's "holy" image to the rank and file! The greater good is to DO THE RIGHT THING NO MATTER HOW BAD IT MAKES YOUR PAST ACTIONS LOOK!!!! Besides, it was already determined that it was the other elders in the congregation that were doing the backstabbing! The GB wasn't even directly involved, save for the fact that they appointed those backstabbers!
Needless to say, his story of that account didn't teach me to be obedient and think only of the best interests of the organization (as he intended it to). It only proved to me that the organization is more concerned with their own interests and self- image instead of what's right!
Anyhow, does anyone know what story/brother he's referring to? -

Living as a former JW
by yknot inwhile i personally have not yet made this jump (final meetings will be first week of june).
i hear many wishing me "happy easter" i wonder how many of you have adjusted?.
i don't think i can unlearn that most holidays are "pagan", after all even the history channel confirms this fact.

The Last Nephilim
If you still believe in God after being a JW, then the Bible and your conscience would have to dictate what you do. I, for one, still teach people that holidays and birthdays are pagan and therefore COULD be disapproved of by God, but I don't tell them they need to stop celebrating in order to continue worshipping God. That's their decision. I still don't believe the Bible teaches the trinity, but I think there's more evidence pointing to a cross rather than a stake. However, I still think a cross is classified as an idol. I believe that the FDS is everyone who slaves for God, not just a select group in Brooklyn. I believe that going house to house to convert people is not what Jesus had in mind when he said "Go therefore and make disciples..." and that it's not vital to your salvation. I don't think that "Do not forsake the gathering of yourselves together..." means you must attend meetings regularly at the KH. I also do not think that not attending means you will lose your salvation or that you are drawing away from God (that's all I've heard from the few who have bothered to call or come by since my wife and I stopped going). I see nothing wrong with having a neat beard. If anything, why does the GB frown upon beards when it clearly was God's standard for men in the Bible? Isn't it society in Satan's system that promoted the idea that beards are "unsightly" or "unclean"? I have only told a few people that I'm not a practicing JW, and those at work have to keep it to themselves because there's another JW that works there. I don't want to be DF'd before I have a chance to reveal more to my son, and I want to leave on my own terms, not the bORG's. I have found it liberating to read the Bible (even the NWT) without the taint of the bORG's literature or thinking to mess it up. Independent Bible reading ALONE can lead one away from the JW religion, let alone the politics and favoritism that occurs with it's adherents and leaders. I say read the Bible and let your conscience guide you. Tell people why YOU feel this way or that without telling them that they must conform to your thinking or they will not make it. Be happy knowing that other people are using their free will that God gave them to make their own decisions about how to worship Him. I find that this approach is much more fulfilling, less abrasive, and less stressful for you and the persons to talk to!

Ok, this is a little odd for me...just need a little advice
by A-Team in...there is a young lady at my workplace, who is a jw, and is sending the obvious signs that she at least has interest in me...even know that i will be a minister 'of the devil's church', as jws call it, as of june.
i'm not going to lie, i think she's cute, and if she wants to talk, i would do it.
one of my major questions is this: if i am not a jw, why would she have any intrest in a person that is apart of 'satan's system'?

Females in the JW organization are convinced from birth that finding a good JW man to marry is next to impossible (women FAR outnumber men in this religion), so sometimes the women go outside. She may be attracted to your reverence for God, and might be concluding in her own mind that "at least he believes in God and displays fruitage of the spirit in his personality". Of course, all too often some women think they can change a man, too!

Currently fading with kids whose mother I am no longer married to who just got reinstated. Have exposed my teenage son to a few things but he can't handle the whole shebang yet. I think he still prays for me to come back. He doesn't mind missing meetings and service, however, except that his mother gives him a hard time about it. I have been around the JWs for over 12 years and been "in" for over 7. Always had doubts, which grew the more I learned. Sept 07 KM was pretty much the straw that broke the camel's back, which was already under strain from carrying all the bull$h!t of the elders playing favorites with certain @$$holes in the congregation. So far I have told two elders that I have no confidence in the BOE at our congregation, and that it has subsequently caused me to lose confidence in the org. Am curious to see how my wife and I are treated at the memorial tomorrow, which will be my wife's first return to the KH in over 3 months!
